Weekly SPI Increases by 0.01 Percent

May 15, 2020 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group increased by 0.01% during the week ended May 14, 2020 while the SPI increased by 9.26% compared to the corresponding period from last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the Combined Index was at 127.31 compared to 127.3 on May 07, 2020 while the index was recorded at 116.52 a year ago, on May 16, 2019

Out of the 51 monitored items, the average price of 14 items increased, 11 items decreased whereas 26 items registered no change during the week.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed a mixed trend with SPI ranging between -0.04% and 0.04%.

The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly decrease of 0.04% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 0.01%.

On an yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 7.64% and 13.17%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 10.93% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 7.64%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs.1668 per 50 kg bag which is 0.3% lower than last week’s price and 8.75% lower when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, average Cement price was recorded at Rs.554 per 50 kg bag, which is 0% lower than the previous week and 2.21% higher than prices last year.
