Weekly inflation increases by 0.05%

August 25, 2023 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group inched up by 0.05% WoW during the week ended August 24, 2023, while the SPI increased by 25.34% YoY compared to the corresponding period from last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the Combined Index was at 275.71 compared to 275.57 on August 17, 2023, while the index was recorded at 219.97 a year ago, on Aug 25, 2022.

Out of 51 items, the average price of 22 items increased, 12 items decreased, and 17 items remained stable.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 0.01% and 0.19%.

The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly increase of 0.19% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 0.01%.

On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 22.36% and 28.35%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 24.71% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 26.55%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs3,699 per 50 kg bag which is 3.33% higher than last week’s price and 53.5% higher when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, the average Cement price was recorded at Rs1,175 per 50 kg bag, which is 1.22% higher than the previous week and 13.49% higher than prices last year.
