Weekly inflation inches up by 0.21%

June 09, 2023 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group increased by 0.21% during the week ended June 08, 2023, while the SPI increased by 39.26% compared to the corresponding period from last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the Combined Index was at 254.67 compared to 254.13 on June 01, 2023, while the index was recorded at 182.88 a year ago, on Jun 09, 2022

Out of the 51 monitored items, the average price of 21 items increased, 10 items decreased whereas 20 items registered no change during the week.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 0.16% and 0.31%.

The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly increase of 0.3% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 0.16%.

On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 38.24% and 41.06%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 38.24% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 39.32%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs.3042 per 50 kg bag which is 1.55% lower than last week’s price and 40.31% higher when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, the average Cement price was recorded at Rs.1142 per 50 kg bag, which is 1.33% higher than the previous week and 22.01% higher than prices last year.
