Utility indices emerge as the subsequent bellwether of CPI

October 2, 2018 (MLN): According to the official data released by PBS on yearly inflation, the prices of Housing/Water/Electricity/Gas/Fuels items during the month of September 2018 have recorded an increase of 0.01% in prices on a month-on-month (MoM) basis and 5.97% on year-on-year basis (YoY).

Within the lot, Kerosene Oil witnessed the major change as it dropped by 0.57% on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, but increased by 37.5% on year-on-year basis (YoY).

The prices of construction input items and construction wage rates increased by 0.14% and 0.45% on month-on-month (MoM) basis, and 9.75% and 9.14% on year-on-year basis (YoY) respectively.

While prices of water supply and house rent remained unchanged on month-on-month (MoM) basis, they increased by 10.63% and 7.58% respectively on year-on-year basis (YoY).
