Twitter to change its name to X

July 24, 2023 (MLN): Twitter is about to undergo a major makeover, the company’s owner, Elon Musk, announced on Sunday that Twitter will rebrand to "X".

Musk, who acquired Twitter in 2022, tweeted, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”

The website has also been changed from "twitter.com" to "x.com".

In addition, Musk has updated his Twitter profile picture with a logo of X, which may or may not be the official emblem of the new brand.

Some users expressed nostalgia and sadness for the blue bird, which has been synonymous with Twitter since its launch in 2006. Others welcomed the change and praised Musk for his innovation and creativity.

This comes in line with Elon's vision for Twitter, which is to make an "everything app".

The X service is envisioned as an AI-powered “global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities,” recently appointed Twitter Chief Executive Officer Linda Yaccarino added in a note retweeted by Musk Sunday.

It would include payments and banking alongside audio, video, and messaging.
