Tax the rich, protect poor: Kristalina

September 2022, 2023 (MLN): Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has urged Pakistan to “collect more taxes from the wealthy and protect the poor people of Pakistan”.

After her constructive meeting with Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq, she stated "what we are asking in our program is that please collect more taxes from the wealthy and please protect the poor people of Pakistan" while speaking to a Pakistani private media channel on the sidelines of the ongoing 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York on Wednesday.

“I do believe this is in line with what people in Pakistan would like to see for the country.” She added.

Kristalina also expressed optimism about the meeting held with the Caretaker Prime Minister.

"Very good meeting with Pakistan’s PM Anwar-ul-Haq today on Pakistan’s economic prospects,” she stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
