Sindh govt decides to cut ministers’ petrol quota by 40%

June 03, 2022 (MLN): Sindh government has decided to cut the petrol quota of ministers and government officials by 40% to share the burden of the general public who have been suffering from the government’s decision of raising petroleum prices by Rs60 per litre in a week.

While making this announcement, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah said that the treasury should not suffer the entire burden of a fuel hike. Overburdening the treasury means overburdening the masses.

The measure came after the netizens demanded the government to apply a cut on fuel quota and other subsidies enjoyed by the ruling elite, as reported by ARY News.

To note, the federal government on Thursday raised petrol prices by Rs30 per litre. This is the second hike in the last seven days. On May 26, 2022, the government increased the petrol prices by the same amount in order to comply with IMF’s conditionalities.

In addition to it, spiraling inflation on the back of rising food and commodity prices is badly hurting the purchasing power of citizens which made them difficult to meet both ends.
