Shehbaz Sharif orders financial framework for electric vehicles by November

September 18, 2024 (MLN): To formulate a detailed financial framework for electric vehicles, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the relevant authorities to submit it by November this year and to streamline licensing regulations for their manufacture in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister made these remarks while chairing a meeting in Islamabad on Saturday, the Information Ministry reported.

He instructed that essential consultations must be held with the Finance Ministry, the State Bank of Pakistan, all provinces, federal units, and relevant stakeholders concerning the electric vehicles policy.

 “The government is prioritizing the promotion of electric vehicles in the country,” Shehbaz Sharif emphasized.

“These vehicles will not only conserve valuable foreign exchange by reducing imports of petrol and diesel but also offer environmental benefits,” he added.

Shahbaz Sharif also announced plans to distribute e-motorbikes to exceptional students from government schools, following a model similar to the laptop scheme.

Moving forward, all federal government institutions have been directed to exclusively purchase electric motorbikes to conserve national resources.
