Rice export reaches record level of 4.5 mln tons

January 2, 2020 (MLN): Rice Exports in Pakistan remained sturdy as it reached a record level of 4.5 million tons during FY19.

The devaluation of the Pak Rupee against the dollar during the period helped in maintaining the export drive, says Global Agricultural Information Network’s report from US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The report estimated that Rice production during FY20 is expected to clock in at 7.5 million tons.

The report further states that Wheat production in Pakistan is likely to set around 24.1 million tons, while the government has set a production target of 27 million tons for the 2019 winter crop whose harvesting will be starting from April 2020.

Favourable weather and a good spell of rain across in November and December are likely to help wheat crop, the report added.
