PSX Closing Bell: We’re in the Money

December 16, 2024 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Monday's trading session at 116,169.41, showing an increase of 1,867.61 points or 1.63%.

The index remained positive throughout the day showing an intraday high of 116,681.59 (+2,379.79) and a low of 115,345.99 (+1,044.19) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 491.30 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 48 closed up, 51 closed down, while 1 were unchanged.

Top gainers during the day were NRL (+10.00%), MARI (+9.94%), ATRL (+9.80%), MEHT (+7.67%), and SAZEW (+6.30%).

On the other hand, top losers were PGLC (-4.80%), PSX (-4.33%), LOTCHEM (-4.00%), SRVI (-3.45%), and BOP (-3.26%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were MARI (+636.34pts), FFC (+471.90pts), OGDC (+217.33pts), PPL (+216.60pts), and HUBC (+206.97pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were UBL (-73.86pts), LUCK (-53.18pts), MCB (-52.70pts), MEBL (-51.89pts), and ENGRO (-47.99pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+1127.63pts), Fertilizer (+461.28pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (+225.43pts), Power Generation & Distribution (+208.25pts), and Refinery (+121.25pts).

While the index was let down by Commercial Banks (-336.35pts), Leather & Tanneries (-37.78pts), Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (-28.88pts), Technology & Communication (-28.86pts), and Food & Personal Care Products (-10.95pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 73,473.62 with a net gain of 1,111.40 points or 1.54%.

Total market volume was 1,470.66 million shares compared to 1,118.57m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs66.63 billion showing an increase of Rs7.12bn.

There were 544,226 trades reported in 477 companies with 246 closing up, 194 closing down, and 37 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 37,724 points or 48.09% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 53,718 points or 86.02% so far this calendar year.
