PSX Closing Bell: Mindful Optimism

Intraday Report: Bearish trend continues as KSE-100 loses over 650pts

September 13, 2023 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 index showed a slight recovery, closing Wednesday’s trading session at 45,590.93, reflecting an increase of 82.53 points or 0.18% compared to the previous session.

The index stayed positive for most of the session, but investors remained cautious.

Investors' key focus remains on the upcoming Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting scheduled for tomorrow, wherein the consensus is that of a 100 basis points (BPS) rate hike.

The index traded in a range of 232.51 points showing an intraday high of 45,732.72 (+224.32) and a low of 45,500.21 (-8.19) points.

Total Volume of the KSE100 Index was 47.423 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 47 closed up, 35 closed down, 12 were unchanged while 6 remained untraded.

KSE100 index was supported by Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 60.24, Cement with 51.1, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 17.12, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 16.61 and Chemical with 7.19 points.

Companies adding points to the index were DAWH with 60.24, LUCK with 41.09, PPL with 15.17, SNGP with 10.5 and PSO with 9.29 points.

KSE100 Index was let down by Fertilizer with 19.39, Commercial Banks with 18.31, Miscellaneous with 17.88, Technology & Communication with 13.04 and Glass & Ceramics with 5.43 points.

Companies dragging the index lower were MCB with 20.51, PSEL with 16.83, TRG with 12.73, FFC with 8.65 and ENGRO with 7.64 points.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 30,426.67 with a net gain of 49.54 points.

Total market volume was 102.768 million shares compared to 126.342 from the previous session while traded value being recorded at 3.8 billion showing a decrease of Rs.1.19 billion.

There was 69,593 trades reported in 297 companies with 122 closing up, 133 closing down and 42 remaining unchanged.
