July 25, 2024 (MLN): Bears returned to the Pakistan stock market on Thursday after some respite yesterday.

The benchmark KSE-100 Index fell 927.67 points or 1.17% to conclude today's trading session at 78,469.33.

The index traded in a range of 1,446.37 points showing an intraday high of 79,776.95 (+379.95) and a low of 78,330.58 (-1,066.42) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 129.01 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 22 closed up, 77 closed down, while 1 was unchanged.

Top losers during the day were AVN (-5.10%), BAHL (-4.73%), TRG (-4.72%), LCI (-4.38%), and THALL (-4.37%).

On the other hand, top gainers were BNWM (+3.49%), APL (+3.32%), PAKT (+2.23%), JVDC (+1.34%), and PIBTL (+1.33%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were BAHL (-131.51pts), HUBC (-108.09pts), SYS (-56.93pts), MCB (-50.94pts), and MEBL (-46.78pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were PSO (+17.21pts), POL (+11.31pts), APL (+11.00pts), PAKT (+8.30pts), and FFBL (+6.29pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Commercial Banks (-377.19pts), Power Generation & Distribution (-143.83pts), Technology & Communication (-106.68pts), Fertilizer (-88.67pts), and Cement (-40.69pts).

While the index was supported by Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (+23.08pts), Tobacco (+8.30pts), Refinery (+5.04pts), Real Estate Investment Trust (+3.34pts), and Property (+2.19pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 49,935.03 with a net loss of 424.10 points or 0.84%.

Total market volume was 327.28 million shares compared to 386.98m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs15.28 billion showing an increase of Rs0.38bn.

There were 215,350 trades reported in 442 companies with 134 closing up, 261 closing down, and 47 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 24 points or 0.03% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 16,018 points, equivalent to 25.65%.
