PSX Closing Bell: A Whole New World

December 12, 2024 (MLN): Smashing previous records, the benchmark KSE-100 Index closed Thursday's trading session at an unprecedented 114,180.50 mark with a massive gain of 3,370.29 points or 3.04% compared to the last close.

The index remained positive throughout the day showing an intraday high of 114,408.62 (+3,598.41) and a low of 111,308.65 (+498.44) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 636.22 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 69 closed up, 29 closed down, while 2 were unchanged.

Top gainers during the day were PIBTL (+12.39%), FFC (+9.92%), PSO (+9.69%), FCEPL (+9.65%), and FFBL (+9.62%).

On the other hand, top losers were KOHC (-4.04%), UNITY (-3.42%), CHCC (-3.41%), PGLC (-2.96%), and TGL (-1.74%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were FFC (+792.42pts), MARI (+351.89pts), PPL (+316.08pts), PSO (+206.69pts), and ENGRO (+183.05pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were MEBL (-53.06pts), CHCC (-39.80pts), KOHC (-31.97pts), UBL (-27.76pts), and MTL (-22.97pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Fertilizer (+1247.09pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+932.72pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (+314.07pts), Technology & Communication (+172.49pts), and Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (+132.76pts).

While the index was let down by Cement (-48.04pts), Automobile Assembler (-24.54pts), Cable & Electrical Goods (-7.95pts), Automobile Parts & Accessories (-3.83pts), and Real Estate Investment Trust (-0.91pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 72,012.37 with a net gain of 1,816.33 points or 2.59%.

Total market volume was 1,469.56 million shares compared to 1,080.02m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs67.28 billion showing an increase of Rs20.14bn.

There were 527,939 trades reported in 463 companies with 298 closing up, 132 closing down, and 33 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 35,736 points or 45.55% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 51,729 points or 82.83% so far this calendar year.
