PSX Closing Bell: A blessing in Disguise

January 08, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Wednesday's trading session at 114,148.45, showing a decrease of 1,904.23 points or 1.64%.

The index traded in a range of 3,903.19 points showing an intraday high of 117,750.22 (+1,697.54) and a low of 113,847.03 (-2,205.65) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 254.28 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 21 closed up, 77 closed down, while 2 were unchanged.

Top losers during the day were PSX (-9.16%), PKGS (-6.26%), SEARL (-5.72%), TRG (-5.06%), and PKGP (-4.79%).

On the other hand, top gainers were JDWS (+10.00%), MEHT (+7.39%), SCBPL (+4.23%), ENGROH (+4.08%), and PGLC (+3.31%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were UBL (-151.85pts), PPL (-135.27pts), SYS (-131.04pts), MARI (-122.75pts), and OGDC (-118.20pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were ENGROH (+121.41pts), FFC (+45.81pts), MEHT (+33.35pts), JDWS (+24.06pts), and SRVI (+17.65pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Commercial Banks (-556.99pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-405.68pts), Cement (-195.29pts), Technology & Communication (-180.01pts), and Power Generation & Distribution (-156.99pts).

While the index was supported by Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (+74.19pts), Sugar & Allied Industries (+24.06pts), Textile Composite (+21.55pts), Leather & Tanneries (+17.65pts), and Transport (+2.17pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 70,743.18 with a net loss of 1,018.41 points or 1.42%.

Total market volume was 1,099.98 million shares compared to 792.77m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs32.47 billion showing a decrease of Rs7.23bn.

There were 339,626 trades reported in 464 companies with 118 closing up, 293 closing down, and 53 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 35,703 points or 45.51% during the fiscal year, whereas it has decreased 978 points or 0.85% so far this calendar year.
