PPL commences gas production from Pateji X-1 Upper Sand reservoir

April 10, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PSX: PPL) has commenced gas production from the Upper Sand (C-Sand) reservoir of the Pateji X-1 well under the Extended Well Testing (EWT) arrangement, effective April 1, 2025.

This follows PPL’s earlier letter dated November 29, 2024, regarding the gas and condensate discovery from the Upper Sand (C-Sand) reservoir of the exploratory well Pateji X-1, located in the Shah Bandar Block.

Shah Bandar Block is located in the Province of Sindh and lies in the southernmost part of the Lower Indus Basin, the company's filing on PSX revealed today.

The Block is operated by the company with 63% working interest along with its Joint Venture partners, Mari Energies Limited (MARI), Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited (SEHCL) and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), each with working interests of 32%, 2.5% and 2.5% respectively.

The joint venture has decided to process the gas from the Pateji X-1 discovery at MARI’s Sujawal Gas Processing Facility (SGPF) for onward injection into the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) network.

To facilitate this, an approximately 40-kilometer, 8-inch diameter flowline has been installed from the Pateji X-1 wellhead to SGPF.

Furthermore, this arrangement has provided the potential to ramp up the production to 10 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd).

The foregoing will contribute positively towards reducing the gap between energy supply and demand while also conserving significant foreign exchange through the production of indigenous hydrocarbons.
