Power generation rises 22% YoY in April 2025

May 21, 2025 (MLN): The total power generation in the country increased by 22% to 10,513 GWh during April as compared to 8,639 GWh in the same month of last year.

According to the monthly electricity generation data released by the National Electric Power Authority (NEPRA), the total power generation increased by 25% MoM compared to 8,409 GWh in March 2025.

On a cumulative basis, in 10MFY25, electricity generation stood at 100,661 GWh, flat YoY compared to the generation of 100,088 in 10MFY24.

Production of Coal (local) and Hydel production increased by 73% and 11% YoY, respectively, while Nuclear, Solar, and Gas saw changes of -8%, 2%, and -14%, respectively, with RLNG remaining unchanged.

Share-wise, Hydel held the majority share of electricity generation during the month, clocking in at 21.9%.

This was followed by RLNG with 20.5%, Nuclear with 17.9%, Coal (local) with 14.5%, and Gas with 8%.

Cumulatively, Hydel took the lead in electricity generation with a share of 29.5% in 10MFY25.

Nuclear followed at 18.9%, with RLNG contributing 17.7%, Coal (local) at 12.5%, and Gas at 9.3%.
