Power generation drops 2.6% YoY to 6,945 GWh in February

March 17, 2025 (MLN): The total power generation in the country decreased by 2.6% YoY to 6,945 GWh during February 2025 compared to 7,130 GWh in the same month last year.

According to the monthly electricity generation data released by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), power generation saw a 14.8% MoM decrease compared to 8,153 GWh in January 2025.

On a cumulative basis, in 8MFY25, electricity generation stood at 81,738 GWh, down 3.2% YoY compared to 84,424 GWh in 8MFY24.

The production of RLNG declined by 32% YoY, respectively, while Wind, Nuclear, Hydel and Coal saw notable increases of 62%, 11%, 7% and 2%, respectively.

Share-wise, Hydel held the majority share of electricity generation during the month, clocking in at 27%.

This was followed by Nuclear with 26.6%, RLNG with 14.1%, Coal with 16.6%, and Gas with 10.3%.

Cumulatively, in 8MFY25, Hydel took the lead in electricity generation with a share of 32%, followed by RLNG at 17.5%, Nuclear at 18.3%, Coal at 18.3%, and Gas at 9.2%.
