PM directs railway plan for Central Asia trade

June 04, 2025 (MLN): The formulation of a comprehensive strategy to expand Pakistan's railway network and boost trade with Central Asian countries has been instructed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Presiding over a meeting on Pakistan Railways held in Islamabad, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of rail as the backbone of a nation’s economy.

He called for a sustainable approach to rebuilding the railway infrastructure, highlighting its crucial role in supporting economic and industrial development.

The Prime Minister stressed that the modernization of the railway system is a vital part of Pakistan’s broader strategy for enhancing regional trade and connectivity.

He also directed authorities to expedite efforts to link Gwadar with the national railway network, as per the press release issued today.

During the meeting, Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi updated the Prime Minister on the ongoing reforms and developments within Pakistan Railways.
