March 04, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Azerbaijan are set to enhance trade relations, with a target of increasing bilateral trade to $2 billion under recently signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs).

The directive was issued by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif while chairing a review meeting in Islamabad regarding his recent visit to Azerbaijan, instructing the formulation of a comprehensive plan to achieve this goal.

Following the announcement by the President of Azerbaijan to invest $2bn in Pakistan, Prime Minister established a committee under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

The committee will oversee preparations for agreements in the energy and infrastructure sectors, according to the press release.

Shehbaz Sharif also directed that all necessary preparations be completed on a priority basis ahead of the expected visit of the Azerbaijani President to Pakistan next month.

Additionally, the Prime Minister instructed the appointment of trade officers in Azerbaijan and other countries with significant trade potential for Pakistan.

Emphasizing the deep-rooted brotherly ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, he highlighted that these relations have spanned decades.

He further reiterated that priority efforts are underway to fully harness the vast trade and investment potential with Central Asian states.
