PM announces Rs50bn electricity relief package for consumers using up to 200 units

July 09, 2024 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a massive relief package of Rs50 billion for domestic electricity consumers using up to 200 units per month for three months of July, August and September.

According to a recent update by the Information Ministry, he declared the package while addressing a ceremony on energy sector reforms in Islamabad this afternoon.

The Prime Minister said 25 million domestic consumers which make up 94% of the total domestic consumers will benefit from this package.

He said under the package, the cost of per unit electricity will be Rs4 to Rs7 per unit and K-Electric will also be eligible for this subsidy.

To note, the package would be funded from the development fund.

"This decision has been taken to provide relief to the common man in the wake of an increase in electricity prices," he added.

These three summer months are the hardest to cope with and ultimately from October onwards as the weather gets pleasant, the electricity consumption also goes down.

Shehbaz Sharif pledged that the coalition government will overcome all difficulties together and the only way to overcome our economic woes is to nab corruption.
