April 05, 2024 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) inched up slightly by 2 paisa against the US dollar during the week as the currency settled the trade at PKR 277.93 per USD, compared to previous week's closing of PKR 277.95 per USD.
Meanwhile, in today's session alone, the local unit closed stable compared to Thursday's close.
In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 277.11 for buying and 279.75 for selling.
On Friday, in comparison to major currencies, PKR gained 58.24 paisa against the Euro, closing at 301.16 compared to the previous value of 301.75.
The British Pound became cheaper by 1.1 rupees closing at 350.87 compared to 351.97 from a day ago.
The Swiss franc saw gains of 1.19 rupees, closing at 307.72 compared to 306.53 from the previous session.
Against the Japanese Yen, PKR lost 0.49 paisa, closing at 1.8372 versus 1.8323 a day ago.
The Chinese Yuan closed at 38.42, depicting no change from the previous session.
The Saudi Riyal closed at 74.1, unchanged from the previous day.
The U.A.E Dirham also closed stable at 75.68.
During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 8.06 rupees or 2.9%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR appreciate by 3.93 rupees or 1.41%.
In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 3 bps to 21.39% and 21.64%.
Meanwhile, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted a reverse repo and Shariah Compliant Modarabah Open Market Operation (OMO) today, in which it cumulatively injected a total of Rs1.58 trillion into the market.
