May 24, 2024 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) remained stable against the US dollar this week in interbank market as the currency settled the trade at PKR 278.21 per USD.
Meanwhile, in Friday's session alone, the local unit appreciated by 9.03 paisa against the US dollar compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 278.3 per USD.
Throughout today's session, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 278.5 and a low (ask) of 278.3.
In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 277.25 for buying and 280.00 for selling.
In comparison to major currencies, PKR gained 51.52 paisa against the Euro on Friday, closing at 301.16 compared to the previous value of 301.68.
The British Pound became cheaper by 51.82 paisa closing at 353.34 compared to 353.86 from a day ago.
The Swiss franc saw losses of 19.87 paisa, closing at 304.24 compared to 304.44 from the previous session.
Against the Japanese Yen, PKR gained 0.45 paisa, closing at 1.7714 versus 1.7759 a day ago.
The Chinese Yuan lost 1.38 paisa, closing at 38.4 against 38.42 from the previous session.
The Saudi Riyal closed at 74.18 with a loss of 2.6 paisa from its value of 74.2 a day ago.
The U.A.E Dirham decreased in value by 2.46 paisa from 75.74 a day ago to 75.77.
During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 7.78 rupees or 2.8%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR appreciate by 3.65 rupees or 1.31%.
In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 21.02% and 21.27%.
Meanwhile, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted a reverse repo and Shariah Compliant Modarabah based Open Market Operation (OMO) today, in which it cumulatively injected a total of Rs241.35 billion into the market.
