PKR loses 35 paisa against USD in intraday trade

January 20, 2023 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) continued its downward journey during the last trading session of the week as the currency lost 35 paisa against the US dollar during intraday trade compared to the previous closing of PKR 229.15 per USD.
The local unit was quoted at PKR 229.48/229.73 [10:57 PST] with the trades being reported at 229.50 per USD while in the open market, PKR is being traded at 237/240.50 per USD.
Since the start of CY23, the local unit has depreciated over three rupees or 1.5%.
It is pertinent to highlight that this free fall of PKR will cost the country by Rs430 billion in terms of debts.
