May 06, 2024 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) depreciated by 2.77 paisa against the US dollar in Monday's interbank session as the currency settled the trade at PKR 278.24 per USD, compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 278.21 per USD.
The currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 278.50 and a low (ask) of 278.20.
Last week, the local unit had gained 18 paisa against USD.
In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 276.73 for buying and 279.38 for selling.
In comparison to major currencies, PKR lost 58.62 paisa against the Euro, closing at 299.44 compared to the previous value of 298.85.
The British Pound became expensive by 36.87 paisa closing at 349.7 compared to 349.33 from a day ago.
The Swiss franc saw gains of 79.24 paisa, closing at 307.33 compared to 306.53 from the previous session.
Against the Japanese Yen, PKR gained 0.6 paisa, closing at 1.809 versus 1.815 a day ago.
The Chinese Yuan gained 13.7 paisa, closing at 38.56 against 38.42 from the previous session.
The Saudi Riyal closed at 74.18 with a gain of 0.74 paisa from its value of 74.18 a day ago.
The U.A.E Dirham increased in value by 0.65 paisa from 75.75 a day ago to 75.75.
During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 7.75 rupees or 2.79%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR appreciate by 3.62 rupees or 1.3%.
In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 21.35% and 21.6%.
