PITB’s digital platform “Kissan Card” registers 1.28 million farmers

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB)’s has developed digital platform, “Kissan Card”, provided to all 36 district of the Punjab administrations with user logins to enter details of farmers in their jurisdictions has registered 1.28 million farmers.

This was informed during a progress review meeting held under the chairmanship of Dr. Umar Saif founding Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University (ITU), Chairman PITB and Advisor to the CM Punjab on Tuesday.

Dr. Saif expressed satisfaction over the effectiveness of Kissan Cards issued to the farmers benefitting from various government programs, which aimed to consolidate recipients’ information for transparent and efficient implementation of these interventions.

He added that the platform would reduce the chances of middleman’s exploitation, corruption, delays and would ensure required assistance and advice to the farmers in real time. The information gathered in the system includes demographics, contact details, crops, landholding patterns, livestock, irrigation system and mechanization.

This initiative has resulted in appropriate allocation of schemes to the right farmers, ease in broadcasting message to larger mass and the creation of a centralized database.
