Petrol pumps to remain fully operational across country

July 04, 2024 (MLN): In response to concerns arising from the protest by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), the Petroleum Division and the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) have issued a joint statement clarifying that petrol pumps will remain operational across the country.

Both the regulatory bodies have advised OMCs to ensure adequate supplies of petroleum products at petrol pumps and to keep them open.

“Petroleum products shall be available across the country,” it reads.

The statement further noted that there is sufficient availability of petroleum products in the country.

It is worth mentioning that petroleum dealers have announced a nationwide strike tomorrow in response to the heavy tax rate imposed on their profits through the FY25 budget released on June 12, 2024.

According to media reports, the petrol dealers have termed the proposed tax as ‘unfair’.

This comes as a major threat to the OMC sector, as sales in the fiscal year 2023-24 have already plummeted to the lowest level in almost two decades.
