June 13, 2024 (MLN): The government is likely to reduce the price of petrol by another Rs9 per litre for the second half of June 2024, passing on the relief of declining international prices to the public grappling with high inflation.

The decline would be the fourth in a row, taking the cumulative relief to over Rs34 per litre.

The government is also expected to cut the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by around Rs5 per litre due to a drop in its international price.

It is important to note that there is still one more session left for the next pricing update; thus, the final prices will depend on global market movements and the exchange rate.

The government will announce the new prices at midnight on June 15, 2024, which will remain in effect for the next 15 days.

To recall, in the last fortnight, the government reduced petrol and HSD prices for the third consecutive time by Rs4.74 and Rs3.86, bringing them to Rs268.36 and Rs270.22 per litre, respectively.
