April 23, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Zimbabwe have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing trade, investment, and regional cooperation, a message echoed during a reception at Serena Hotel, Islamabad, celebrating Zimbabwe’s 45th Independence Day.

Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, who graced the event as the Chief Guest, congratulated Zimbabwe’s government and people.

He commended their progress in nation-building and regional integration through organizations such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and COMESA.

He highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to deepen economic ties, particularly in key sectors like textiles, agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, and machinery, as per the press release.

Minister Kamal also referenced Pakistan's “Look Africa Policy” and pointed to successful initiatives like the Health, Engineering, and Mineral Show (HEMS) held in April 2025, which saw over 270 African delegates in attendance.

Furthermore, the upcoming Pakistan–Africa Trade Development Conference (PATDC) and Single Country Exhibition (SCE), scheduled to take place in Ethiopia from May 15 to 17, were also noted as critical opportunities for boosting cooperation between the two countries.

Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Titus Mehliswa Johnathan Abu Basutu, expressed deep appreciation for Pakistan's continued friendship and support.

He invited Pakistani investors to explore opportunities in Zimbabwe's “G-Economy sectors,” which include agriculture, mining, manufacturing, tourism, and infrastructure development.

The Ambassador outlined several major international platforms where Zimbabwe offers business opportunities, such as the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, the Mining, Engineering and Transport Expo, and the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo.

These events attract high-level business conferences attended by Zimbabwe’s top officials.

Ambassador Basutu further emphasized Zimbabwe’s re-engagement policy under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, aimed at fostering peaceful and prosperous global participation.

Both nations reiterated their commitment to strengthen ties, particularly through South-South Cooperation.

The reception featured national anthems, speeches, a commemorative gift presentation to the Chief Guest, a cake-cutting ceremony, and a formal dinner attended by diplomats, government officials, and business leaders from both countries.

"Let today be a celebration of Zimbabwe’s independence, and also of the deepening friendship between our two nations," concluded Minister Kamal Khan in his remarks.
