Pakistan records FDI of $385m in Sep

October 21, 2024 (MLN): Pakistan recorded a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of $385m in September, compared to the FDI worth $213m in the Same Period Last Year (SPLY), according to the latest data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

This reflects a year-on-year growth of approximately 81%.

Comparison on a month-on-month basis shows that FDI surged 54% as the country reported an investment of $250m in the previous month.

On a cumulative basis, within 3MFY25, FDI has rose 48.2% to $771.11m as compared to foreign direct investment of $520.24m recorded in the same period of last year.

With respect to the portfolio investment under FDI, an outflow of $47.49m was witnessed through equity securities, as compared to an outflow of $13.17m in September 2023 and an inflow of $1m in the previous month.

The foreign private investment, which includes both direct investments and portfolio investments recorded an inflow of $337.6m in September 2024, compared to an inflow of $200.17m a year earlier and an inflow of $250.7m a month earlier.

Meanwhile, foreign public investment stood at $77.02m during the review month.

Accordingly, the total foreign investment in the review month clocked in at $414.62m, up 111% compared to an investment of $196.47m in the same month a year ago.
