Pakistan records FDI of $133m in Oct

November 18, 2024 (MLN): Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan fell 18.4% to $133.23 million in October 2024 compared to $163.31m recorded a year ago, latest data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) showed.

Comparison on a month-over-month basis shows that the net inflow of FDI decreased by 65.4% as compared to an inflow of $385.09m in the previous month.

On a cumulative basis, within 4MFY25, FDI has spiked to $904.34m as compared to foreign direct investment of $683.55m recorded in the same period of last year.

This translates to an increase of $220.79m or 32.3% YoY

With respect to the portfolio investment under FDI, an outflow of $74.37m was witnessed through equity securities, as compared to an inflow of $1.38m in October 2023 and an outflow of $47.49m in the previous month.

The foreign private investment, which includes both direct investments and portfolio investments recorded an inflow of $58.86m in October 2024, compared to an inflow of $164.69m a year earlier and an inflow of $337.6m a month earlier.

Meanwhile, foreign public investment stood at $127.66m during the review month.

Accordingly, the total foreign investment in the review month clocked in at $186.52m, compared to an investment of $167.63m in the same month a year ago.
