January 08, 2024 (MLN): Pakistan's major airports have begun testing about 2% of passengers on inbound international flights amid a surge in global Covid-19 cases, the country's Civil Aviation Authority says in a statement as reported by Bloomberg.

Rapid antigen testing aims to identify and isolate potential cases among incoming passengers, the statement said.

The airports have been instructed to fumigate passenger lounges daily and collaborate with border health services, the statement added.

To note,  Bloomberg had reported earlier in December that governments across Southeast Asia are bringing back measures to limit a rapid resurgence of respiratory infections such as Covid-19, including installing temperature scanners at airports and encouraging people to wear masks again.
