Pakistan, Norway reaffirm bilateral cooperation

May 09, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Norway reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation during a telephone conversation between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

Both sides agreed to stay in close contact as they discussed the rapidly evolving regional situation.

In the call, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar briefed his Norwegian counterpart on the worsening security environment caused by India’s unlawful and unprovoked strikes on several Pakistani cities.

He stated that these attacks had resulted in the tragic loss of innocent civilian lives, including women, children, and the elderly.

Dar emphasized that despite these serious violations of international law and the UN Charter, Pakistan had exercised restraint.

He reiterated the country's unwavering resolve to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of aggression, according to the press release.

Foreign Minister Eide expressed deep concern over the escalating situation and offered condolences for the civilian casualties.

He commended Pakistan’s measured response and stressed the importance of de-escalation and diplomatic engagement to prevent further conflict.

The two leaders also reviewed the state of bilateral relations. Eide acknowledged the valuable role of the Pakistani community in Norway and its contributions to the country’s social and economic development.
