Pakistan attends ECO HLC on Reforms & Cooperation

February 04, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan was represented at the High-Level Committee (HLC) on Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Reforms and the Prospects of Cooperation in the Region by Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch during the meeting.

At the HLC, the Foreign Secretary outlined Pakistan’s perspective on crucial issues concerning ECO reforms.

She emphasized the need for comprehensive reforms within ECO, focusing on financial and budgetary matters, improving the efficiency of the secretariat, implementing an effective recruitment policy, and addressing other related issues.

As a founding member of the organization, the Foreign Secretary reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional connectivity and trade.

She also stressed Pakistan’s strong commitment to the early implementation of the ECO Trade Agreement (ECOTA) and urged all member states to adopt a broader, more holistic approach to ensure its prompt execution.

Furthermore, the Foreign Secretary underscored the significance of ECO Vision 2025 in boosting intra-regional trade and enhancing regional connectivity, according to the press release.

She commended Uzbekistan's proposed Strategic Objectives of Cooperation 2035 and emphasized that through collective and coordinated efforts within the ECO framework, all member states can realize the full potential of the organization in the region.
