October 7, 2021 (MLN): As per amendments made by the government in National Accountability Ordinance, 1999 (NAO), the taxation matters of the business community and individuals would now refer to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Federal Law Minister Farogh Naseem said while addressing a press conference on Wednesday.

He stated, "it came to our notice that the business community and individuals who are not directly connected to any of the public offices are in distress under the previous ordinance of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)."

Considering the distress faced by businessmen and private persons, it was decided that taxation matters would now be referred to the FBR.

He underlined, “It will not end the cases, but just change the forum.”

“NAB would now have no jurisdiction to file a reference against any individual who was not linked with any public office holder under the amended ordinance,” he said.

He also underscored that FBR would be fully empowered to file and probe cases regarding taxation.
