April 20, 2020 (MLN): The import bill of the Machinery group has witnessed a decrease of around 28% MoM and 6.4% YoY to clock in at $679.46 million in the month of July 2020.
According to the latest data issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the main machineries that contributed in declining import bill on monthly basis were Power Generating Machineries, Telecom Apparatus, Office Machines and Electric Machinery & Apparatus as their imports declined notably by 44%, 35.2%, 20.7% and 17% MoM respectively.
Under the Machinery group, the major portion of import was associated with Telecom Apparatus, Power Generating Machines and Electrical Machinery & Apparatus as $176.9 million, $153.5 million and $148 million worth of these machineries respectively were imported during the month.
Telecom machines which accounted for 26% of the entire group’s import during the month, its import increased by 48.8% YoY.
Within the Telecom, the imports of Mobile Phones jumped significantly by 89% YoY to $148 million from $78.3 million during July 2019. On a monthly basis, the imports of Mobile Phones diminished by 36% from $231.3 million in June 2020.
