Li Qiang arrives in Pakistan to attend SCO Summit

October 14, 2024 (MLN): Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang has arrived in Pakistan today for a four-day bilateral visit, during which he will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Islamabad.

Premier Li is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers and senior officials from key ministries such as foreign affairs, commerce, the national development and reform commission, and the China International Development Cooperation Agency.

The highlight of the visit will be comprehensive discussions between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Premier Li Qiang, as both leaders lead their respective delegations to review the entire spectrum of Pakistan-China relations.

These talks will focus on deepening economic and trade ties, as well as enhancing cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Additionally, the two leaders are expected to address regional and global developments, reflecting the strong strategic partnership between the two countries.

During his visit, Premier Li will also call on President Asif Ali Zardari and hold meetings with parliamentary leaders and senior military officials to further bolster Pakistan-China ties.

According to Pakistan's Foreign Office, Premier Li's visit presents an opportunity for both sides to reaffirm mutual support on core issues of interest, advance high-quality CPEC projects, and continue regular consultations on important regional and global issues.

Pakistan is gearing up to host the 23rd SCO summit on October 15 and 16, with stringent security measures in place to ensure a smooth event

According to media reports, a four-member delegation from India, 76 delegates from Russia, 15 representatives from China, a two-member team from Iran, and a four-member delegation from Kyrgyzstan arrived in Islamabad on Sunday, along with seven officials from the SCO.
