June 16, 2022 (MLN): The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is not asking for “Do More” as the conditions pertaining to fiscal consolidation were already the part of the agreement, signed by the previous government, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Dr. Aisha Ghaus Pasha said on Thursday.

“Taxation of personal income tax, abolishment of subsidies, petroleum levy, and increase in electricity prices were all agreed by the previous government,” she added.

“IMF is not asking anything other than the compliance of the previously agreed terms and conditions,” she noted.

She further added that the previous government had delayed the compliance for a notable time period this is why the present government has to take tough decisions in a row for the much-needed IMF tranche.

“We are hopeful of completing the IMF program in days to come,” she said.

With regards to the $2.3 billion funding from China, she said that inflow is expected shortly after some routine approvals.
