February 23, 2024 (MLN): The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Thursday expressed its eagerness to collaborate with the new government on policies to ensure macroeconomic stability.

During a press briefing, Ms. Julie Kozack, Director of Communication, stated, “We look forward to collaborating with the new government on policies to ensure macroeconomic stability and prosperity for all of Pakistan's citizens.”

The Fund appreciated the caretaker government of Pakistan for its efforts in maintaining economic stability through strict adherence to fiscal targets, while also safeguarding the social safety net.

She emphasized that this was achieved by maintaining a tight monetary policy stance to control inflation and building up foreign exchange reserves.

However, Ms Kozack refrained from commenting on former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s intention to request an investigation into election irregularities and an audit of the elections, stating, “I’m not going to comment on ongoing political developments.”
