Govt unveils plan to plant fruit trees along highways

May 13, 2025 (MLN): A new initiative to commercially plant fruit trees along the country’s motorways and highways has been unveiled by the federal government.

During a meeting held in Islamabad, Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik and Minister for Communications Aleem Khan finalized the plan to launch a commercial fruit tree plantation initiative along motorways and highways.

The program will allow private investors to lease land for climate-appropriate fruit cultivation under a three-year model, according to the press release.

Dr. Musadik Malik emphasized that partnering with the private sector would not only increase green cover but also generate economic opportunities and advance Pakistan’s climate ambitions.

He further noted that the Ministry of Climate Change will provide technical assistance, including support for obtaining carbon credits.
