Govt to provide additional $163mn of foreign exchange for Hajj 2023: ECC

April 10, 2023 (MLN): Despite the economic challenges faced by the country in general and the plummeting reserves in particular, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet on Monday approved an additional financial requirement of $163 million for Hajj 2023, the press statement issued by the Finance Division said. 

The committee has decided that all received applications under the Regular Hajj Scheme, which amounted to a staggering 72,869, will be declared successful without balloting.

This means that all applicants who had applied for the scheme will be able to embark on the spiritual journey of a lifetime without having to go through the usual lottery system.

The decision was made after the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony presented details on the Hajj Policy-2023, including the number of applications received under the Regular Hajj Scheme and unutilized quota under regular and sponsorship Hajj schemes.

The decisions brought relief to thousands of eager pilgrims who have been eagerly waiting for their turn to perform Hajj.
