September 26, 2024 (MLN): The government is planning to abolish the category of non-filers from the tax laws to increase revenue and promote long-term economic growth, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said.
“Pakistan is probably the only country in the world where there is this term of non-filers. It’s about time to remove this category," the Finance Minister said in an interview to Voice of America on the sidelines of his visit to New York, USA.
The government has a target to collect Rs12.97 trillion in fiscal year 2024-25, 40% higher compared to last year.
The Minister has previously emphasized that structural reforms are pivotal for ensuring sustainable economic growth and stability, forming a cornerstone of the government’s policy agenda.
These initiatives include end-to-end digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to broaden the tax base and increase Tax-to-GDP ratio, reforms in the energy sector, and the restructuring of state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
