Govt slashes petrol prices by Rs8 per litre

Govt revenue from petroleum levy surges 98.5% YoY in 9MFY24

September 30, 2023 (MLN): The caretaker government on Saturday slashed the petrol and High-Speed Diesel (HSD) prices by Rs8 and Rs11 per litre to Rs323.38 and Rs318.18 per litre, respectively, according to the notification issued by Ministry of Finance. 

The ministry attributed this revision in petrol prices to the variations in international prices of petroleum products and the improvement in the exchange rate.

The new prices of petroleum products for the fortnight starting October 01, 2023.

It is important to mention that the the Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 17.8 rupees or 6.19% against the US dollar in September to settle at PKR 287.74 per USD. 

Previously, on september 16, the caretaker government hiked the petrol and HSD prices by Rs26.02 and Rs17.34 per litre to Rs331.38 and Rs329.18 per litre, on the back of increasing trend of prices of petroleum products in the international market.
