June 04, 2025 (MLN): The government has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering women’s inclusivity and empowerment in the maritime sector with the inauguration of the first-ever Ladies Cafe at Karachi Port Trust by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry.

Lauding the initiative as a significant advancement in workplace inclusivity, the Minister stated: “The establishment of the Ladies Cafe is more than a symbolic gesture it is a practical step toward creating a respectful, comfortable, and secure environment for women to thrive professionally."

"I commend the efforts of KPT management and CBA leadership in making this vision a reality,” he added.

He emphasized that women-led marine conservation initiatives, such as those empowering fisherwomen in Southeast Asia, serve as models for coastal resilience and sustainable resource management.

“Women contribute significantly in the maritime and blue economy sectors for sustainable marine ecosystem management and economic resilience,” he added.

The Minister stressed the importance of a comprehensive approach to empowering women in maritime professions, advancing gender equality, and ensuring that the blue economy contributes to environmental sustainability and economic empowerment in Pakistan and beyond.

During the visit, the Minister personally greeted women staff at the cafe, reaffirming the government’s commitment to creating supportive and empowering work environments for women in the maritime sector, according to the press release issued today.

This initiative not only improves the workplace experience for female employees at KPT but also reflects broader efforts to foster gender equality and inclusivity within Pakistan’s public sector institutions.
