Govt briefs Citibank on initiated talks with IMF for expanded program

April 19, 2024 (MLN): The government on Thursday informed Citibank officials that discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have been initiated for a larger and extended program.

According to a press statement released yesterday, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Muhammad Aurangzeb shared this development with the officials.

During the meeting, the finance minister briefed them on the positive economic indicators including the rising stock market, renewed interest of foreign buyers and institutional flows on the back of a Stand-by Arrangement (SBA) signed with IMF.

He further informed that Pakistan had successfully repaid $1 billion Pakistan’s International Bond on time (April 12, 2024).

He highlighted priority areas of taxation, energy sector overhaul and state-owned enterprise reforms for discussion and evaluation.
