March 10, 2025 (MLN): To prevent losses and maintain food security, the Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation (PASSCO) has been directed to ensure the timely sale of stored wheat before the arrival of the new crop by Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain.

He issued these directives while presiding over a high-level meeting at the PASSCO headquarters.

The primary agenda of the meeting was to review wheat reserves, management strategies, and the selling process to avoid any future crises.

The meeting was attended by Secretary National Food Security, Waseem Ajmal, PASSCO Managing Director Sarfraz Durrani, General Manager Field Waqas Alam, General Manager HR Sharjeel Najm-ul-Masood, General Manager Finance Muhammad Qadeer, and other senior officials.

PASSCO officials briefed the Federal Minister on various organizational matters and progress related to wheat sales, according to the press release.

They informed him that PASSCO has strengthened coordination with different agencies and provincial authorities to accelerate the sale of wheat.

Several key measures are being taken to ensure timely transactions.

PASSCO representatives assured that the organization is fulfilling its responsibilities in maintaining national food security and stabilizing the market.

Various measures have been implemented to ensure transparency in the wheat sale process, benefiting both farmers and consumers.

Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized that there would be zero tolerance for any delays in the wheat sale process, as prolonged storage could impact the quality of wheat and lead to financial losses for the national treasury.

He instructed PASSCO officials to devise effective policies to address administrative and financial challenges, ensuring smooth operations in the future.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to agricultural development, food security, and farmer welfare.

He stressed the use of modern technology in wheat procurement and sales to enhance efficiency and transparency.

The Ministry of National Food Security & Research remains dedicated to these goals through strategic policies and effective implementation.
