Google Wallet launches in Pakistan for secure digital payments

March 13, 2025 (MLN): Google Wallet is now available in Pakistan, according to an official statement from the tech giant.

The app aims to provide users with a safer, more convenient, and efficient digital payment experience.

In addition to payments, it also supports digital items like loyalty cards and boarding passes.

Pakistani users can download Google Wallet from the Google Play Store to get started.

“The country’s digital payments landscape is evolving rapidly, and as more people adopt digital transactions, Google Wallet offers a secure and seamless way to pay, shop, and travel,” said Farhan Qureshi, Country Director for Google Pakistan.

He added that the app will allow Pakistanis to tap-and-pay in stores, make hassle-free online purchases, and easily access their boarding passes while traveling.

“Google Wallet helps keep everything protected in one place, no matter where they go. More importantly, this launch will go a long way in supporting financial inclusion in Pakistan and unlock economic opportunities for all,” Qureshi continued.

“This milestone further cements Google’s unwavering commitment to Pakistan, reinforcing our belief in its digital future and potential.”

Cardholders of Bank AlFalah, Bank of Punjab, Faysal Bank Noor, HBL, JazzCash, Meezan Bank, and UBL can now add their cards to Google Wallet.

This enables them to make contactless payments using their Android phones or Wear OS devices at any location that accepts tap-and-pay transactions.

Google Wallet is set to expand its services in Pakistan, with cardholders from Allied Bank, easypaisa Digital Bank, JS Bank, and Zindigi soon being able to add their cards for seamless digital payments.

Currently, users can make contactless payments with their Android phones or Wear OS devices at merchants accepting tap-and-pay transactions.

Google Wallet also supports online and in-app payments, with platforms like Onic, Gul Ahmed, Sana Safinaz, J., and KE integrating Google Pay via PayFast.

Additionally, users can store and access boarding passes from airlines like Batik Air and Thai Airways, receiving real-time updates on departure times and gate changes for a hassle-free airport experience.

Travelers can securely tap and pay abroad without needing their physical cards.

Those with eligible credit or debit cards saved to their Google accounts will automatically see them in Google Wallet and can set them up for contactless payments by following simple on-screen instructions.

If adding a new card, users need to tap “Add a card,” accept the issuer’s terms, complete verification, and have their card tokenized for use.

Furthermore, Bookme.pk users can store boarding passes, bus, train, and event tickets, while Sastaticket.pk users can save boarding passes within the app.

Google Wallet also allows the addition of digital items such as transport and event tickets.

Ensuring user security, Google Wallet employs industry-standard tokenization, replacing actual card details with a device-specific alternate card number and a dynamic security code for each transaction.

Banks require verification before adding a card, and screen lock protection ensures only the user can access the Wallet, maintaining a secure and private payment experience.
