Food inflation jumps up by 2.04%, YoY

November 05, 2018 (MLN): CPI for the group of Food and Non-alcoholic Beverage items during the month of October 2018 have grown by 2.04% YoY and 1.57% MoM, as recorded by PBS in a recent official data released.

Out of 39 items, Chicken, meat, spices, dry fruits, rice and tea have been the major contributors in raising the CPI for the collective food and non-alcoholic beverage group on year-on year basis.

Among these items, CPI for Chicken and spices have been recorded to have a significant increase of 28.31% and 12.61% YoY respectively.

While MoM, CPI for Chicken and eggs have witnessed a considerable increase of 35.2% and 14.4% respectively.

Being the highest weightage group of about 34.83%, the impact of Food and Non-alcoholic Beverage items on overall CPI has increased by 0.56 percent points, MoM, whereas 0.76 percent points, YoY.

During the ongoing year, CPI for the above mentioned group shows a declining trend for the initial three months of the year, after that, except for the month of September 2018, it has been increased progressively over the period.
