February 15, 2025 (MLN): The AlUla Conference for Emerging Market Economies is a high-level annual event organized through a joint collaboration between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Saudi Ministry of Finance.

Pakistan’s Federal Minister of Finance, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, has departed for Saudi Arabia to participate in the inaugural edition of this prestigious conference.

The finance minister will attend the two-day conference, scheduled to begin on February 16 in the historic city of AlUla, at the special invitation of his Saudi counterpart, Mohammed Al-Jadaan.

During the visit, the finance minister will be accompanied by his advisor, Khurram Shehzad.

 

The conference will feature a total of nine sessions, with 200 participants and 36 speakers from across the world.

A total of 48 countries have been invited to attend the event.

The special participation of Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb highlights Pakistan’s recent economic resilience and positive transformations, achieved despite global and regional uncertainties.

During the conference, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will be a part of a high-level panel discussion on the theme: "The Pathway for Resilient Emerging Markets."

This session will be hosted by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and will include finance ministers from Egypt, Brazil, and Türkiye, according to the press release issued today.

The AlUla Conference for Emerging Market Economies is set to become an annual event in Saudi Arabia, focusing on fostering a strong and sustainable global economy driven by the insights and strategies of emerging markets and developing economies.

The inaugural edition in AlUla will bring together finance ministers, central bank governors, policymakers, academia, international institutions, and private sector experts to discuss global economic strategies.

The conference will explore economic and financial policies that can help emerging markets and developing economies navigate risks and tackle global economic challenges amid an evolving world order.

This landmark event comes at a time when the world is grappling with deep and persistent economic shocks, trade tensions, geopolitical shifts, and tightening financial conditions.

The AlUla Conference will provide global leaders with a unique platform to deliberate on national, regional, and global economic issues, facilitating a robust exchange of ideas to address pressing global challenges.
