FIA summons FBR official for tax refund case

August 05, 2024 (MLN): The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued a fresh summons to Badshah Khan Wazir, a Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) official, following his failure to attend a scheduled hearing on July 26, 2024.

Wazir is part of an investigation into the allegations of corruption, kickbacks bribery, corrupt practices, misconduct, illegal approval of tax refunds to large tax payer companies etc. by the officers/officials of LTO Lahore.

"You are once again called upon to appear (in person) before the undersigned on Aug 05, 2024 (Monday) at 10:30am at FIA Office, Anti-Corruption Circle, 1-Temple Road, Lahore without fail, and explain your position" reads a notice issued by FIA, a copy of which is available with Metis Global News.

Earlier, four senior Inland Revenue officers were suspended from their positions.

“In exercise of powers conferred under Rule 5(1) of the Civil Servants (Efficiency & Discipline) Rules, 2020, the Competent Authority has placed Muhammad Azhar Ansari (IRS/BS-20) presently posted as Chief (Admin Pool), FBR under suspension, with immediate effect, for a period of 120 days”, read an FBR notification issued on May 30, 2024.
