FBR strengthens legal efforts, recovers billions in revenue cases

May 12, 2025 (MLN): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has strengthened its litigation management efforts, achieving significant breakthroughs in long-pending revenue cases.

According to a press release issued, the Islamabad High Court ruled in favour of the FBR in cases amounting to Rs36.14 billion over the past week.

The revenue authority has been actively pursuing legal proceedings in higher courts, where substantial amounts had remained tied up in litigation for years, affecting national revenue collection.

With a more strategic approach to legal representation, FBR has reported major developments, including three key tax dispute cases.

Among them, the court upheld the revenue claim of Rs26.446bn against Bahria Town (Pvt) Limited pending for over two and a half years in various appellate forums.

In addition, two corporate cases, valued at Rs9.7bn, were also decided in FBR’s favour. One had been under litigation for nine years, while the other for over three years.

Over Rs3bn has already been recovered, with FBR continuing to pursue the remaining amount, as APP reported.

These outcomes are attributed to recent judicial reforms, including the formation of constitutional benches in the Supreme Court and High Courts.

They demonstrate the government’s resolve under the Prime Minister’s leadership, supported by the Attorney General and FBR Chairman, to enhance legal efficiency and revenue recovery.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, due process, and effective dispute resolution, the FBR is focused on reclaiming significant public funds to strengthen the national exchequer.
